Pedestrian safety on the Mont-Saint-Michel footbridge
Born in the 1990s out of collaboration between Lyon Parc Auto (LPA) and LEC, the LED parking light beacon marked a turning point in parking lot lighting. At the time, LPA obtained an exceptional dispensation to use LEDs, which had never been used before, in the Terreaux parking lot in Lyon. This pilot project quickly became a national and international benchmark.
The Mont-Saint-Michel footbridge is equipped with an LED wayfinding system to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, while respecting the site’s exceptional environment.
For this emblematic project, the luminous flux was specifically designed to provide a grazing light, perfectly oriented to the ground. The aim: to guarantee excellent legibility of the pathway without generating light pollution towards the sky, and to preserve the bay’s landscape and night-time quality.
The installation is based on ECO-845 floor recessed luminaires, designed for precise horizontal wayfinding. Each unit incorporates 8 warm-white 3000K LEDs and has a controlled power consumption of just 0.96 W. Connections have been designed to facilitate maintenance, an essential asset for a structure subject to the specific conditions of a submersible footbridge.
The system provides discreet, high-performance and durable signage, perfectly integrated with the architecture of the footbridge.
