On the Confluence site in Lyon, which is currently undergoing a major transformation, a unique lighting installation will outline the park’s future uses. Conceived by lighting design agency ON, this temporary intervention is part of an evolutionary approach that is at once aesthetic, functional and sustainable.
The project is based on the installation of 25 ECO-MAR solar light beacons, designed by ECO-INNOV, at three different heights (40 cm, 60 cm and 80 cm). This variation creates a rhythmic landscape of light, reminiscent of a field of fireflies. Thanks to their omnidirectional wayfinding with 8 amber LEDs in fixed mode, these devices diffuse a soft, warm light for around five hours after dark, depending on the energy accumulated during the day.
The choice of ECO-MAR light beacons was an obvious one for the ON agency. Sturdy, self-contained and economical, these luminaires were originally designed for wayfinding on construction sites, but have been adapted to meet a poetic need. Their polycarbonate shells diffuse light like a firefly, in keeping with the nocturnal universe already developed in the park.
Over and above their formal quality, these light beacons perfectly meet the central challenge of the project: to offer a reversible and adaptable installation. Designed as a prefiguration, it can evolve with the landscaping of the park – being moved, completed or reinterpreted according to the future uses of the site.
The collaboration between ON and ECO-INNOV was particularly fluid and constructive. A complete set including both anchor bolt and luminaire simplified installation and convinced the client. Particular attention was also paid to details, such as the yellow paint finish of the socket, in harmony with the park furniture.
With this installation, light becomes a projection tool, revealing tomorrow’s ambiences today and gently accompanying the transformation of the urban landscape.
